My client –a Media & PR Agency- wanted to create a data system for journalists and researchers. They had already designed the backend of a smart data management system and asked me to make recommendations for the interaction design and user interface.

Project Plan

I set up an 8-week project plan to enable all stakeholders to schedule well in advance for our joint sessions.

After a thorough analysis of the database, the business requirement specification, and a content audit, I performed a quick competitor review. Since this bespoke app had no direct competitors, I researched dashboards, statistics, and infographics for reference.

In the kick-off workshop, I ensured that all stakeholders had been heard. The team could align their vision and I received answers to my first set of questions.

User Research

I interviewed stakeholders and journalists to get an insight into their challenges.

“In ‘News’ being the first is everything”.

Journalist

I collected the key interactions, created and refined a set of personas, and created user stories for alignment with the in-house developers.

Wireframes

After I aligned the product roadmap with the client, I created interactive prototypes with Adobe Xd for the MVP and the future vision.

The Concept

The users had to perform complex interactions to achieve their goals. With a combination of research, tracking, and collecting relevant data they were now able to cross-reference, sort, and prioritise data, create new articles, and schedule for publication. The smart system the data engineers had built now had an intuitive interface to match which enabled the users to reach their goals with ease.
